Since its inception, the Rhode Island Hot Wheels Club membership has strived to build a club that projects a positive image of the hobby. It is an organization where people can come to trade or buy new releases or old — and always receive a fair deal. Our goal is to instill our members with a positive club experience. We have only a few rules and regulations, the most important being that any new releases of common issue vehicles (this excludes Treasure Hunts and Limited Edition vehicles) cannot be sold for more than .00 each. We have worked very hard to dispel the notion that collectors' clubs' are merely havens for flea market vendors and price gougers.
Our efforts have paid off. Between 50 and 100 members now attend our meetings the second Tuesday of every month. Meeting activities include racing for a free Treasure Hunt, trophies, gift cards and more. We have a 2-lane raceway with electronic finish line and custom starting gate. We also sponsor auctions where members can win some great Hot Wheels®-related prizes.
Another important aspect of our club is the family atmosphere. We realize that kids are an important part of this hobby, as they are the future collectors. We have special activities and giveaways just for the children. Our .00 yearly membership includes all immediate family members, making it an affordable family experience. We are aligned very closely with the Southern New England Hot Wheels Club, originating in Old Saybrook, CT, as well as the Connecticut Hot Wheelers of Enfield and Manchester, CT. This tri-club allegiance offers members a variety of exciting activities, events and additional collector experiences throughout the year.
Where It All Began
The Rhode Island Hot Wheels Club was founded in 1995 by our President Emeritus Robert Wilner. Acting on a hunch that there were many people seeking an outlet for their enthusiasm about this little 1/64th scale car, Bob held the club's first meeting at a restaurant in Johnston, RI. The club quickly caught on with collectors, and has outgrown three previous locations before finding its current home at the Kelley & Gazzero Post in Cranston, RI. Bob Wilner, though no longer president, is still an active, contributing member of the club.
The RI Hot Wheels Club meets the second Tuesday of each month.
